One Response to “Helaman 11”

This chapter shows the pride cycle in another revolution. The famine humbles people, and they repent and become righteous again. However, after several years of peace and upright living, dissension arises. The dissenters (it’s not clear which ones or at which time, but some dissenting group) leaves the Nephites and joins with the Lamanites, waging battle against the Nephites.

My thoughts — How do you create a society that accommodates disagreement? When can the disagreement simply be tolerated, and when does it lead to warring factions?

Maybe dissension is the first step downward after righteousness. When people are righteous, they study the gospel/read the scriptures. When they study/read the gospel, they have questions, form opinions, and splinter off with differing interpretations. Is that an inevitable consequence?
