One Response to “3 Nephi 4”

I’ve read this chapter about 4 times now, right before drifting off to sleep. I’ve learned that if I read my scriptures like that — right before drifting off to unconsciousness — I get little out of them.

Reading this chapter, what struck me most is the parasitic nature of the Gadianton robbers. They don’t seem to exist except by robbing and plundering from others.

Without the Nephites, they have little ability to thrive; they start to wither away. No doubt for any society to function well, its members need to be productive, contributing people — not parasites who feed off of the industry of others.

I like that the symbol of Utah is the beehive, which represents industry, hard work, and unity. But I wonder, in what ways am I a parasite to others? In what ways am I feeding off of others’ hard work and efforts? What “honey” am I producing for the hive, so to speak.
