Reading this chapter, about how Nephi’s brethren so quickly forget their spiritual experiences (e.g., seeing an angel), makes me reflect on returned missionaries who go inactive, or others who go inactive. Do they go inactive because they forget?

When we take the sacrament, one of our three promises is to “always remember.” Sometimes I think that today’s world is different from the past. We’re so bombarded with media, the Internet, a thousand opportunities and commitments, that it’s easier to forget spiritual things today than it was when most everyone farmed and lived rural lives. But not so. Forgetting and remembering God are constant themes throughout history.
